Review of Core Components of Naturalistic Teaching Strategies for young children with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate research trend and core components of naturalistic teaching strategies for young children with autism spectrum disorders(ASD) by reviewing domestic and abroad literature related to naturalistic teaching strategies published from 2002 to 2011. Twenty articles were identified for this study. Results of this study were as follows: (1) The most frequently used experimental design was a single subject design, (2) naturalistic teaching strategies identified in this study were milieu teaching, imitation intervention, incidental teaching, time delay, mand-model, activity-based embedded teaching, parent-implemented naturalistic strategies, and a peer implemented naturalistic strategies, (3) more than two strategies were combined, (4) nineteen core components regarding naturalistic teaching strategies were emerged, (5) based on the findings of these literature, naturalistic teaching strategies were effective intervention strategies for improving social communication abilities of young children with autism spectrum disorders.
